Climate emergency: rains cause deaths and dams are at risk of collapse in Minas Gerais

In Minas Gerais, 341 municipalities are in a situation of emergency due to the heavy rains.

So far 3,992 people lost their homes and 24,610 where forced to abandon their residences. There have been 24 deaths in the state due to the storms and there was a  rockfall in a tourist site in the mining town of Capitólio, with 10 dead, which occurred on January 8.

The heavy rains that hit the state also increase the risk of problems with dams, especially Forquilha III, Sul Superior and B3/B4, all owned by Vale and located near urban centers.
