Two years after the murder of Indigenous Earth defender Ari Uru-Eu-Wau-Wau, police arrests suspect

Brazil ‘s Federal Police arrested a suspect of murdering Indigenous Earth defender Ari Uru-Eu-Wau-Wau, 34, found dead with signs of beating on April 18th 2020, in the Jaru district, in Rondônia state.

Indigenous organizations from the state, who have been asking for answers for the past two years, issued a note after the arrest. Kanindé, an NGO that defend the Amazon Rainforest and indigenous peoples, and Jupaú, the association of the Uru-Eu-Wau-Wau people asked that the identity of the man arrested was made public, but neither the identity nor the presumptive motive of the crime have been revealed so far. “We’ll keep following the case until the appropriate punishment, within the country’s law, as well as the eviction of the current invaders occupying the Uru-Eu-Wau-Wau land happens”, reads the note.
